BERWICK’S CONTRIBUTION TO THE FIRST WORLD WAR

Town Hall, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland TD15 1BN                                                       Exhibition, talks, demonstrations and interactive performances bringing to life Berwick's contribution to the First World War, at home and abroad.  Part of a Heritage Lottery funded project linked to the Berwick 900 Festival.

BERWICK’S BORDER STORY
Fri. 1st May to Mon. 4th May

A weekend of events, displays and medieval encampments, crafts and re-enactments focusing on Berwick-upon-Tweed's turbulent history of Border warfare. Begins on Friday 1st May with the cavalcade of the annual Riding of the Bounds, which has been held each year since 1609.

BYGONE BORDERLANDS

Exhibition and programme of talks staged by Berwick Record Office and local history societies from both sides of the English/Scottish Border illustrating aspects of life in the Borderlands through the ages.

BERWICK AT WA R: 1939-45

Town Hall, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland TD15 1BN                                                       Exhibitions, talks, demonstrations and interactive perfiormances marking the 70th anniversary of VE Day, which ended the Second World War in Europe.  The programme includes a 1940s vehicle rally, a recreated air-raid shelter, "A Day in the 1940s" and "From Land-girl to Bride".

BERWICK MAY FAIR AND PARTY ON THE PARADE
Fri. 22nd May to Mon. 25th May, 11.00am-4.00pm

Traditional street markets, local food and entertainment.  Customary Walking of The May Fair by the Mayor of Berwick-upon-Tweed on Friday 22nd May. Colourful Mayor's Parade, Songs of Praise and Pipe Band display on Sunday 24th May.  Berwick Rotary Club's Party on The Parade on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th May. Berwick's Guild of Freemen is also hosting the Court of Deans of Guild of Scotland during the weekend.

BERWICK’S ARMED FORCES DAY AND OUR GARRISON STORY

Events, exhibitions, talks and historical re-enactments celebrating the centuries-old military heritage of Berwick-upon-Tweed.  The programme includes the Armed Forces Day Parade, band display and Beating Retreat ceremony at the 18th century Barracks, and period encampments and re-enactments at the Barracks, Gunpowder Magazine, Main Guard and locations around the town's fortifications depicting the lives of soldiers of the garrison at Berwick from the 17th century until the 1960s.

Stalls selling food and drink produced within a 16 mile (25km) radius of Berwick-upon-Tweed, street food and entertainment.

BERWICK’S FISHING STORY AND TWEEDMOUTH FEAST
Thurs. 16th July to Sun. 19th July
Watchtower Gallery, West End, Tweedmouth, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland TD15 2HE
Exhibitions, visual arts displays and performances celebrating the salmon-netting and sea-fishing heritage of Berwick-upon-Tweed.  The programme includes “Berwick’s Fishing Heritage” exhibition, “Tidal” dance performances at locations around the town, the traditional Crowning of the Herring Queen (16th July) and Tweedmouth Feast Carnival of Floats (19th July).

SPITTAL SEASIDE F ESTIVAL
Sat. 8th & Sun. 9th August, from 11.00am each day Spittal Promenade, Spittal, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland TD15 1SE
Family event with all the features of a traditional seaside holiday including donkey rides and Punch and Judy Show.

BERWICK’S SEASIDE AND MARITIME STORIES

Exhibitions and displays of visual art and crafts celebrating Spittal's development from 18th century health spa to 21st century seaside resort and the stories of the lifeboats and the vessels associated with the port of Berwick-upon-Tweed through the ages. 

BERWICK RNLI LIFEBOAT FESTIVAL
Sun. 16th August, 1.00pm-4.00pm Carr Rock, Spittal,  Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland TD15 1QY
Fund-raising stalls and entertainment celebrating 170 years of lifeboats stationed at Berwick.

BERWICK FOOD AND BEER FESTIVALS

The Barracks, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland TD15 1DF                                     Dozens of stalls offering some of the best food and drink from the North East of England and the Scottish Borders set in Berwick's 18th century Barracks square, with cookery demonstrations, street food and entertainment.

HERITAGE OPEN DAYS

An opportunity to visit a wide range of buildings not always open to the public including a salmon-fishermen’s shiel, an 18th century ice-house and the Gunpowder Magazine.

THE BERWICK 900 FAMILY HISTORY FESTIVAL

Town Hall, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland TD15 1BN                                                       Exhibitions, talks and performances bringing to life stories of families associated with the communities of Berwick-upon-Tweed, Tweedmouth and Spittal over the centuries.  The Festival aims to foster links with families throughout the UK and beyond that have historical connections with the town.

1715 AND THE NORTHUMBRIAN JACOBITES

Exhibitions, talks and performances marking the 300th anniversary of the capture of Lindisfarne Castle by Northumbrian Jacobites on 10th October 1715 and the
